Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Gorilla trekking in Uganda is conducted in four main sectors of Bwindi National Park including Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo, as well as in Mgahinga National Park. Each gorilla group is visited by a maximum of eight trekkers per day, ensuring minimal disturbance and a sustainable tourism experience.

Detailed Itinerary for the 3 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Your adventure begins at 7:00 am after breakfast in Kampala or Entebbe. Meet your professional safari guide and start the scenic drive to southwestern Uganda. You will cross the Equator at Kayabwe, continue past Masaka and Lake Mburo National Park, and stop for lunch in Mbarara Town.

Proceed through the picturesque Kigezi Highlands, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa,” enjoying views of rolling hills, tea plantations, and traditional homesteads before arriving at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park,  home of the mountain gorillas.

Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters with your gorilla trekking permit for a pre-trek briefing by experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You will then enter the dense rainforest to begin your search for the mountain gorillas.

The trek may last from 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorilla family, but the moment you come face to face with these gentle giants is truly magical. Watching a giant silverback interact with his family or observing playful juveniles in their natural habitat is an awe-inspiring experience you’ll never forget.

After spending an hour with the gorillas, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you can take a guided community walk to nearby villages to learn about local culture, traditional dances, crafts, and the Batwa people who once lived in the forest.

Day 3: Drive Back to Kampala or Entebbe

After breakfast, begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. Stop for lunch in Mbarara Town, and if time allows, make another stop at the Uganda Equator for photos and souvenir shopping.

Arrive in Kampala or Entebbe in the evening, where your driver guide will drop you at your hotel or transfer you to the airport for your flight.
